What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy, has two distinct parts, one is called Radial Wave Pressure Therapy and the other is called Focal Wave. Shockwave is a non-invasive procedure utilized to treat conditions extracorporeally, meaning outside the body. It involves delivering intense pulses (shockwaves) to specific areas of the body. These shockwaves are high-energy sound waves generated externally and focused on targeted tissues. The energy from these shockwaves promotes increased blood flow to the injured area, enhances tissue regeneration, and stimulates the body’s natural healing processes.

Shockwaves can penetrate up to 4.5 inches into the skin, making them effective at reaching deeper tissues that other modalities may not access. This capability allows Dr. Kenny to address conditions beyond the scope of traditional chiropractic care and Active Release Treatment (ART), facilitating deeper localized tissue treatment and supporting the body's self-healing mechanisms.

What does Shockwave Therapy Treat?

Shockwave Therapy is highly effective for treating a variety of conditions, including:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
  • Jumper’s Knee (Patellar tendinopathy)
  • Other chronic and acute tendon and muscle injuries

In addition to treatment, shockwave therapy serves as a diagnostic tool. By transmitting sound waves through healthy tissue, Dr. Kenny can pinpoint problem areas, aiding in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

What are the Benefits of Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a versatile treatment option with many benefits for treating various chronic and acute musculoskeletal conditions and injuries including:

  • Works within the patient’s tissue tolerance levels
  • Reaches tissue depths that other modalities cannot
  • Improved local blood circulation
  • Increase in metabolic activity
  • Reduces inflammation and promotes healing
  • Minimal side effects and no recovery time
  • Non-invasive
  • Does not require medication or anesthesia
  • Helps athletes return to activities they love, pain-free

What does Shockwave Therapy look like?

If Shockwave Therapy is chosen as a treatment option, a gel is applied to the skin over the treatment area. A hand-held device is then positioned over the area and generates shockwaves that are delivered through the skin and into the deeper tissues. The intensity and frequency of the shockwaves can be adjusted based on the specific condition being treated and the patient's tolerance level. Any discomfort is usually minimal, and adjustments can be made to ensure patient comfort.
